packing, packing.

i'm spending my last day in burlington, vermont packing, getting distracted, not showering because our water is being weird, and listening to lots and lots of ben kweller. i've always been a fan but, until recently, hadn't been listening to him very often. lately, i've been listening more, and listening to songs i haven't yet heard and i'm falling more in love. his lyrics are amazing. they're real. they're authentic but simple and relatable. today the song i'm relating to is nothing happening but currently, the lyrics i'm loving are those to the song, thirteen. have a listen below and take note of the lyrics. they're fantastic. xoxo. maggie.

we've been in the rain,
we've been on the mountain
we've been 'round the fire
and fancy hotels.

drank water from farm wells
we sang with the choir
i kissed your dry lips
we jumped off the high cliffs
and splashed down below.

skin to skin in the salty river
made love in the shadows.
oh, read books to each other
read the mind of the other.

flew one thousand jets,
we laughed and we cried
at movies and real life
and our ridiculous bets.

we danced in the moonlight at midnight
we pressed against back doors and wood floors
and you never faked it.
and frequently, we ignored our love
but we could never mistake it, oh-

we met on the front porch
fell in love on the phone
without the physical wreck
you gave me the necklace
that used to hang around your mother's neck.

we questioned religions,
gave bread to the pigeons
we learned how to pray.
we stood by the ocean
turned our hearts into one.

we laid in bed all day, hey
we skipped on the sidewalk
skipped stones on the water
skipped town.

we've seen the sunrise with new eyes
we've seen the damage of gossip and true lies
we've seen the sun go down
had passionate make-outs
with passionate freak-outs.

we built this world of our own
it was in the back of the taxi
when you told me you loved me
and that i wasn't alone.

touristing?

lately, the photos i've been taking of sights that i've been seeing have not been of many so, i'm resolving to make amends to that (especially since i finally have a new laptop! first upgrade since march 2007 and loonnnng overdue). my latest adventure involved ma lil croissant/biscuit. kate and i journeyed to woodstock, vermont so i could show her some of the most precious gems surrounding my area of vermont (it was her first time visiting the central/southern part of the state).

however, the main event this weekend, rails2riches, is being held at killington- even closer to my home than pretty little woodstock. my friends and i have been going to this event since highschool and it has always been a good time supporting the participants that we know. this year, many more of my close friends are participating than usual so i'm even more excited to be there. everyone came down the night beforehand to avoid long morning drives so, to start the weekend off right, a bunch of us got together to enjoy some catching up at a friend's and some beers by a fire. photos of the weekends' events will be posted sunday- and even better, expect a freeeeky lil edit featuring ladies, ladies, ladies.. and bagels. xoxo. maggie.

self-worth

is important to have. new years is coming up and i've decided that my number one new years resolution is to work on liking myself. everyone has problems with accepting themselves for who and what they are and if you try to tell me you are an exception i will call you a liar. for a long time now, i've struggled with body image and any other insecurities that your typical human being suffers from but we only have one chance to live out our lives on this earth and not using my one chance for all its worth would be my biggest mistake. xoxo. maggie.

ps. i haven't been posting much lately because i've been at a loss for words so expect more music, video and photo posts more than written word pieces for a little while. <3

halloweekend.

halloween was full of great people but unfortunately lacking in great parties. thursday night, uvm jumpstarted our halloween excitement with the "dawn of the shred" railjam put on by sugarbush parks and the uvm ski and snowboard club. my housemates and myself had been planning a wild basement shindig the following night to kick-off the weekend festivities but, as luck would have it, it poured through the entirety of thursday night, into the morning and by afternoon our basement was home to at least an inch of disgusting water. perfect.

although the parties were not bountiful, the three nights of halloween celebrated in burlington, vermont were not a complete let-down. my best friend was up visiting as well as several of my other favourites. here are some photos of the different costumes that we partied with. xoxo. maggie.

ice cube & a lance leg.

ice cube again, this time with a sex pistols groupie.

let's make better mistakes tomorrow.

come support b4bc and peepshow! wednesday, october 27th @ 9pm in the alumni auditorium on champlain college campus there will be a premiere for the long awaited "let's make better mistakes tomorrow" peepshow film. i wouldn't have heard of any of this if it weren't for my good friend molly mcglew. molly is a graphic design student at champlain college, creator of this hawt peepshow premiere poster and the founder of vixxxen: a fashion and snowboarding blog. it's the new hot shit and you better check it out if you haven't already. and while you're at it, watch this teaser for let's make better mistakes tomorrow. the film is going to be amazing for sure. xoxo. maggie.

and ps! $2 raffle tickets. board up for grabs. all proceeds go to b4bc.

in god we trust.

i just received this necklace in the mail that i ordered online via refinery29 boutiques. i can't say enough about this site. it allows you to browse some of your favourite high-end boutiques in the united states and purchase items all from one shopping cart. the orders are sent individually to each boutique and your items are shipped! this little treat, a "sweet nothings" pendant from in god we trust, is my new favourite necklace and i can assure you it won't be coming off for some time. in god we trust has more than just adorable customizable jewelry and accessories.. the rest of their jewelry collection is absolutely fantastic and if i had unlimited funds, all of it would be mine. xoxo. maggie.

joyas valadoras.

whether or not you appreciate a good read, this essay can resonate within any person that has any connection with their own emotions. i'm not a big science person so initially, i wasn't extremely intrigued by the title and opening of this essay. luckily, the scientific explanations were presented in laymens terms so it wasn't difficult to get through the fun facts and into the heart of the matter. brian doyle's piece on life, the existence of feelings that we project through the typical cliche of the heart, varying lifespans of the creatures of our earth, and the different heartwrenching situations that we will all inevitably experience at least once in our short and possibly insignificant lives hits hard with all readers- or at least everyone that's read it that i've spoken with so far. but enough of my opinion, read this and make your own. xoxo. maggie.

we got bashed.

so, from what anyone can recall, the burton bash was a great time. wristbands and names on the list were the way to get in unless you were like some unnamed friends that we know of who used the crawling-on-hands-and-knees method to get in. either way, a good time was had by all.

terry richardson.

have i ever mentioned how much i love his work? his photographs are raw, real and evocative. everything about them is exciting to look at. he takes pop culture to a new level where his photos seem to bring the celebrities down a notch and to more of a tangible level for us lesser-folks. here are some samples of my personal favourites. if you haven't checked out his tumblr, click the link to and take a first-hand look at terry richardson's diary. http://terrysdiary.com/

i got.

so, so good.

sinless summer- mildly revised.

[Note: In order to keep this essay to the length of two pages, important characters of the summer were left out but that is not to say that they were not equally as crucial parts of the summer as the four depicted here. This essay is to establish the feeling between the two "couples" of the story.]

The air is crisp, fresh. The stars are some of the brightest I've seen. We're halfway through what we'll soon come to know as the best summer of our lives.

what about?

you were not what i needed
was my drunk just defeated so i stay
and of course i don't want you
i just want to hear what you would say
and on my way home, i scream, "i get it!"
and the sky screamed right back,
"so why'd you let it do you this way?"

don't write me lines from your steel box
all propped on wheels worn by exhaust
clothesline, clothesline for hearts to share
with the holds to my heart like the linen i wear
and all the popular girls will stare
at the hundred and odd guns i bare.

so what about me?
me on top of you?
all soft in your ear,
time-tested radio tunes.
and what about me?
me on top of you?
all soft in your ear
time-tested radio tunes.
time tested radio tunes.

hey, hey man- with the reveling machine
studying the place of your memory
on and on and on to space
where they don't duck and roll at the crash of your name
i would grant you a cameo, baby
with the sound of the stage
and the sway of a lady.

so what about me?
me on top of you?
all soft in your ear,
time-tested radio tunes.

you were not what i needed
was my drunk just defeated so i stay
and of course i don't want you
i just want to hear what you would say
and on my way home, i scream, "i get it!"
and the sky screamed right back,
"so why'd you let it do you this way?"

so what about me?
me on top of you?
all soft in your ear,
time-tested radio tunes.

madder red.

untitled 1.

[Note: The attached photo is not the one intended to go with the essay - obviously, since my dad is missing. Until I can find the one I reference in the essay, at least you'll have some sort of image to go along with it.]

When I look at this photograph, I see two happy people. I see a little girl who is six and thinks that her dad is the greatest dad in the whole world. The matching outfits say it all. What I don't see when I look at this photograph is the tragedy of the years to come. I don't see the entire loss of admiration and hope for one of this little girl's biggest role models.

cleaner slate.

alright. so, where i left off last is completely unimportant. since i turned twenty, a lot of things have happened to me, so rather than bore anyone with the details that are less than captivating, i'll give you one of my - what seems to be becoming quite frequent (i should work on posting more regularly) - summaries of the past almostmonth.

lately, i've been trying my hand at using black & white
film more often, instead of just resorting to disposables.

the last two photos are from shannon's last days in vermont.
she left a week before my birthday and i'm so glad i got to
spend at least near the entirety of her last week her with her.

the great escape.

for those of you who are familiar with the great escape theme park in new york, just past the glenns falls outlets.. this post has nothing to do with that. lately i've made so many changes and as far as i can tell they are all positive ones. i've made the move into my new apartment with my two good friends, ariana and garrett. garrett has yet to move in and our living room has yet to be settled but we've already had one (at least mostly successfully) party and i have a sweet porch off of my bedroom. i just got a call from urban outfitters mere days ago and found out i have orientation on sunday for a new job there! (hopefully all goes well- crossing my fingers that i do as well as i'm hoping i can.) i couldn't be happier.

i've also made some important decisions for myself based on reevaluating my own self-worth and figuring out who matters and who should or should not be in my life depending upon whether or not their presence is healthy and beneficial. i've been running a lot more often and swimming as much as i can. i've been eating better and reconnecting with more old friends and making new ones. just when i thought the summer had ended, it turned around and showed me that it was only just beginning.

here are some things to help sum up the past couple weeks of my life.

who cares.
